What Counts As ‘Unauthorized Practice?’
A member of the State Bar of California may not:
- Aid any person or entity in the unauthorized practice of law
- Practice law in a jurisdiction where to do so would be in violation of regulations of the profession in that jurisdiction
The unauthorized practice of law may involve paralegals acting as attorneys or attorneys practicing law in a jurisdiction in which they are not licensed to do so. The law also prohibits attorneys who are disbarred, suspended, resigned or involuntarily inactive from providing legal services.
